Tips For Nurses On Having An Effective Electronic Resume

Electronic Resumes are important in helping you get noticed by your target employers. They are your representation online, thus it is very important to give extra time and effort in making them as accurate and as attractive as possible.

If you seem to fail in maximizing your electronic resumes’ potential then these things could happen:

  • It could cost you that dream job you’ve always wanted.
  • You get frustrated because you don’t get to be interviewed for a position you know you are highly qualified for.
  • You end up posting your resumes across the web but still don’t get any responses – or if you do they are just a bunch of spam messages.
  • You waste valuable time that supposed to be spent enjoying that dream job you’ve always wanted.
  • Either you’re jobless or working on a low paying job that is not worth your time, skills and experience.

So to avoid going through all those hassles and frustrations just follow these simple and easy steps below.

First Step:  Creating An Electronic Resume

  • Get a copy of your usual resume – the printed or printable copy usually stored in your computer and the one you use to submit manually to employers.
  • If you have not made a resume before then get hold of a bio data form, so you will have a guide on some basic information that you should include in your electronic resume.
  • Create a Word document focusing on the following information:
  1. Personal Information – just give the basic and most important info that the employer would need to know about you like Name, Address, Age, Date of Birth, and Contact Details. No need to put your life story there and DON’T include security numbers and other sensitive information that can be used maliciously by scammers and fraudulent activities.
  2. Work Experience – indicate important and RELATED job experiences to the position you are applying for. It would be useless to put there waitress or sales girl experiences if you are applying for a nursing position. No matter how long the list is, if it is no where relevant to the position you are vying for then it’s no help for you. Internships, on-the-job trainings, seminars, workshops and other paid or unpaid work that you had related to the position you’re applying for is worth the mention. And you can point out the skills you developed during those activities, which you believe are helpful and useful to the desired job.
  3. Educational Attainment – now this is important especially if you don’t have much work experience on the field of work you are applying for. Your education will help you showcase your skills and knowledge that make you qualified for the job.
  4. Other Information – you can put some additional info to highlight your personality and other qualifications like hobbies, special skills and crafts, organizations that you are part of, objectives for work, and references.
  • After identifying and writing down the necessary information you need, then you have to make sure that you format your document well. Make sure there are no spelling, grammar, font, and margin errors so your resume looks professional. Showing professionalism in a well-written resume gives any interviewer or employer a very good impression on how you carry yourself and most probably show how you will carry on with your work when they hire you.

Second Step: Targeting A Specific Job With Your Electronic Resume

  • Finally after you have completed a well-written resume about your skills and experiences, next thing to do now is to put some keywords in it. Put keywords that are related to your target position or job industry, so it can help in making your electronic resume come up in searches for that job industry that you want to work for. If you are applying for a nursing job then you would want to show up in searches for nurses and not for hotel, sales, or web development jobs.
  • If you want to work for a specific field in nursing, then make sure to mention that field in your resume. Like if you choose to work as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) then mention that a couple of times, or RN (Registered Nurse), or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), etc. It is important to put in the the necessary keywords or mention the specific nursing field you would want to work in so you come up in those searches and not somewhere else. That will give you more chances of being noticed and in landing an interview.
  • Now if you are versatile and you’ve got a lot of skills and experiences that could help you qualify for more than one position or type of career, then you can make your resume as versatile as you are too. It’s not advisable to just post a generic resume, in the case where you would want to explore different opportunities then you should make different electronic resume for each career type or position you want to apply for.
  • Don’t shoot your arrows everywhere – aim for the bull’s eye. Target your resume correctly by combining the right and specific keywords, skills, and experience for each career type or position to make each resume highly qualified and don’t waste your submission.

Final Step: Posting Your Targeted and Highly Qualified Electronic Resume

  • So after everything you’ve made to make sure that your resume is well-written, professional looking, and targeted to a specific job then the final thing to do is to post it online. Now posting your electronic resume should be done carefully and with some efforts on researching for quality and legit sites.
  • So when you are applying for a nursing job then it is best to post in professional nursing sites dedicated for employers and job seekers in the nursing job industry. Why? Well, we know that there are thousands of job sites out there – most of them are sprawling with scammers and non-existing companies. It is best to stay away from those sites and stick to a highly moderated and well-maintained site.
  • Investing time in finding the right site is good for you in the long run. Saves you time and much frustration from being a victim of a scam or non-existing job. When choosing a company make sure it’s legit, it does exist, it has a established reputation and is being run by respectable people.
  • Choose a site that respects you – respects your career – and leads you to the Top employers in your industry.
